Abstract
Systematic work at Faridkot led to the development and release of 3 high yielding varieties of American cotton (Gossypium hirsutum Linn.), viz. 'F 414', 'F 286' and 'F 505'. Further improvement may be greatly facilitated if more information is gathered on the inheritance pattern of economic traits. An understanding of the type of gene effects involved in the inheritance of quantitative traits may be greatly beneficial for designing an efficient breeding methodology. Hence an experiment was conducted to gather information on the nature and magnitude of various types of gene effects for seedcotton yield; boll number, boll weight and plant height from 2 intervarietal crosses of upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum Linn.) using basic set of 6 generations in each.
