Abstract

Selection of base population animals for selection experiments alters the means and variances of breeding values in the initial and succeeding generations. In earlier paper I described how to compute these altered parameters to use in best linear unbiased estimation and prediction. The present paper presents a much simpler method that employs regular mixed model equations modified for selection of base animals. The same techniques can be used for dealing with grouping in sire evaluation or animal model evaluation.
