Abstract
Mastitis is an acute or chronic inflammatory disease affecting one or multiple mammary glands. Mastitis can occur at any time during lactation and sometimes in the pseudopregnant bitch. Affected mammary glands are painful and firm with redness of the skin and heat in the gland. In severe cases the bitch may become significantly ill, and abscess formation and death can occur.
