Ralston purina nutritional research on canine hip dysplasia

Abstract

A special dietary balance was evaluated in a series of four tests using breeds of dogs prone to canine hip dysplasia (CHD). The dietary balances compared were designated as poor, marginal and superior CHD nutrient profiles. Hip joint laxity was evaluated using the Norberg measurement. There was significant (P≤.05) improvement in hip joint quality as dietary balance improved. Biochemical data supported this observation. Improved hip joint quality during the early stages of development is important for maintaining curvature and fit within hip joints.
