Abstract
Canine hip dysplasia (CHD) is the most common orthopedic disease in large and giant-breed dogs. Although our understanding of CHD has evolved over the years, progress has often been more a result of clinical empiricism than well-conceived scientific investigation. Canine hip dysplasia continues to be a source of considerable debate, controversy, and conjecture among veterinarians, dog breeders, and dog owners. The controversy notwithstanding, it is generally accepted that hip laxity plays an important role in CHD.
